Ideas concerning where we go from here.
When we left the session, we were addressing the question of "where do we go from here." Ideas?
I would like to begin at the most local level possible, the 55+ community in which we live. We would all like to be able to "age in place" as long as possible. As we age, however, additional resources are needed to allow us to accomplish this. These resources may be both physical and/or emotional.
Self-interest is a great motivator and I think we would generate a greater "buy-in" if we begin by addressing the needs of ourselves and our immediate neighbors. (Although most participants are from OTOW, we had one gentleman from Stone Creek and it would seem appropriate to include the needs of any communities represented in our group.)
I will add a second post which will allow anyone interested to help in identifying these needed resources.
Thanks, Dick, for getting the blog going so quickly and for the instuctions I hope I am following well enough that this comment is received! I will send an email shortly so you can create a post on my behalf for the Ideas concerning where we go from here section as you have kindly offered to do.
I agree with Richard, self interest is a powerful force. I think with some active brainstorming and use of some quality tools to narrow our focus, we can do some really creative work. I'll sign off as "anonymous" as I do not have any of those accounts, very computer illiterate. Joan
I have been hearing a lot of reports about employers looking to fill job openings but are not successful. Like most of you I am retired but there are times when I wish I were still working. I have made various attempts over the past several years but have never been successful at finding a job. There are a lot of very qualified people who are retired and could be working id they wanted to. Is there any way we can encourage employers to look more closely at hiring retired people? Most retired people don't need employer-sponsored benefits because they already have them. I for one would also be willing to work cheap. Just geeing out of the house, being with people and feeling I am making a contribution are, for me, of more importance than the size of the salary. Paul Brochu
Has anyone heard of Co-Housing? It started on the West Coast and is gradually making its way to the East Coast. Two such undertakings are now underway in Massachusetts and Virginia. Please see this link for more info if you are interested: https://www.cohousing.org/what_is_cohousing Thanks...Paul

ReplyDeleteJoan, no need to be anonymous. Just select the "Name/URL" option and put your name in the box provided. Leaver the "URL" box blank.
DeleteAnybody know when we gather again? I'll be out of the country for all of May, but hoped we would get together again in April before I leave.

Thanks for this update to find the 55+ Community in Massachusetts and make them in single organisation.
